The President’s tweet on April 20, 2020 is not a surprise. In the face of growing questions and criticism about his handling of the COVID-19 crisis, it was only a matter of time before President Trump resorted to distraction, blame, and fearmongering and to blame immigrants to distract from his incompetence.
There is no order in place as of April 21. President Trump has even stated that it is only being drafted right now but he will sign it on Wednesday. Rumor is President Trump has claimed he will suspend immigration only as it relates to Green Cards for workers for 60 days Worst case scenario is at this time the process will be delayed if we cannot file I-140 and 485 applications or Labor certifications and green cards will not be processed or received for 60 days. In regard to interviews, they are already not happening as consulates and embassies are shut down. So another 60 days was probably not going to happen anyway.
Any executive order that is signed will probably be subject to legal challenges and will not be immediately enforceable.
